How to Clean Tile Floors

A really great thing about tile floors is that they are much easier to clean than either concrete or hardwood. In most cases, a bucket of soapy water and a wet mop or cloth is enough- but that does not mean that you can get by without cleaning them sufficiently. As a matter of fact, cleaning a tile floor is even more important than cleaning either hardwood or concrete. A clean tile floor will glisten, and a dirty one will stand out. If you just installed a new tile floor, you should learn how to clean it so that it stays looking new. Here are some tips on cleaning tile floors.

Cleaning a tile floor isn't too hard, when compared with a hardwood, concrete or stone floor of comparable size. Cleaning ceramic tile is easy in terms of complexity of the job and the effort you'll have to put forth, but doing it halfway will only make more work for you in the end. The first thing you need to do is to sweep up any loose dirt and debris, preferably with your vacuum cleaner. Make sure that you pay special attention to the skirting and other places where brooms cannot reach. Set the vacuum on the lowest setting, and go over the tiles one time. Then, you'll be ready for the next step.

Mopping is the best way to clean ceramic tile. Prepare your bucket of cleaner by mixing equal parts hot water and vinegar, and fill another bucket with water to rinse the floor when you're done. Mop the floor, making sure to wring out your mop as much as possible. Rinse the floor with the second bucket of water, ensuring that you soak up all the vinegar. Allow the tile to dry; wet tile is really slippery. You may need to use a stronger cleaner on the grout, but try to steer clear of bleaches and acids, especially if your grout is colored.
